Isn't there some sort of more formal legal principle this might fall under?--Pharos 02:33, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The only one I can think of is that finders keepers is how salvage rights are applied to abandoned wrecks. →Raul654 03:06, Mar 18, 2005 (UTC)
So far from searching about I think the main relevant thing is Possession, although the Homestead principle and of course Salvage are also related.--Pharos 03:14, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
There's also Uti possidetis (now linked from article)... AnonMoos 01:19, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can there be a category for "Children's Rules" like this? --In Defense of the Artist (talk) 20:42, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

Unless anyone can explain their objection, I plan to retitle this article simply “Finders keepers,” without an intervening comma, and alter the text to reflect the change. The phrase is so used not only in the legal judgment quoted here but in all but two of the dozens of items that WP’s disambiguation page directs readers to (although one intrudes a hyphen, another makes “finders” genitive, and two more respell "keepers")—fittingly, for inserting a comma makes the adage resemble a list. Unlike editor Projectmayhem666, however (see below), I think the article deserves to remain, if only for anyone curious as to whether this childish saying has any legal standing. Lottery

[edit]

Not sure what you mean by the lottery ticket, in the UK this happened recently, the person whom bought the ticket lost it accidentally but had been using the same numbers for years. When the person who found it claimed the prize it was disputed by the original purchaser of the ticket who eventually won the dispute and received the prize money with the finder coming away with nothing. So in this instance would "Finders Keepers" not apply to the lottery? The point in the article suggests that it does apply Projectmayhem666 (talk) 11:41, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

[edit]

I have added this for deletion after having a look and seeing this content available in the relevant sections, there is little valuable information here and it's unsourced. Projectmayhem666 (talk) 11:53, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
